So, I've got news. I got an email just before Christmas. It was from a fellow knackered mother and wine lover. Oh, and she was also an editorial director for a publishing company and asked if I would like to write a wine book. At which point, my knees buckled and I had to sit down. Eldest Boy asked me if I was okay. I let out a squeal. So did the children. They had no idea what they were squealing about, they were just happy to be squealing. Anyway, news is the KMWC book will be out in February next year, a hardback with groovy illustrations. The full title is The Knackered Mother's Wine Club: Fridge-door whites and in-the-rack reds; how to choose, taste and enjoy wine. By Helen McGinn.
This one is for you.

ReplyDeleteThank you darl, and yes, that was me! Couldn't resist, I'd bored everyone here with it, so had to turn to a new audience x
Delete*scream* that is very exciting! Well done :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks! Yes, very excited ;)
DeleteFabulous.
ReplyDeleteNow sit down and have a large glass of wine. 60,000 to 80,000 or even 100,000 is a lot of zeros and I mean words. A lot of thinking, frustration and tears. A lot of "why did they ever ask me, I'm a KM and far too busy".
Don't despair.
Keep it real, but please don't just do a Clarkson where every chapter is simply a different Sunday Times article - I love Clarkson but he's the world's laziest writer and only sells in spades because he has a TV show.
Your book will be different because it will tell a story, a lovely journey with every anecdote cleverly woven into the fabric. A book which contains just your blog entries is not good enough.
You must focus on two things. First, what is my story - that's your vine. Secondly, how do I weave my leaves around the vine to make it a thing of beauty. I've done the odd bit of story telling in the last few years (every PhD tells a story) so anytime you want a hand just call.
I've just realised - silly me for being slow. Let them ghost the sequel; the first must come from your heart.
DeleteYou are like Confucius. Except younger. Thank you and can promise, it is all new stuff x
DeleteIt is a widely accepted Wisdom that Confucius owned a Junk but Aristotle owned a Speed Boat. So looking forward to hearing about your new project at the beginning of the allium lifting season. X
DeleteYou make the fact that my children pull the heads off your beautiful flowers wound so poetic...
DeleteLate to the party, but one word: YAY! I was going to say Motherf*ckin yay but I suspect that's two. Or possibly three.
ReplyDeleteThanks! Over the motherf*cking moon x
DeleteCongratulations! Hope it gets reprinted in many numerous editions. I think I know who the dedication will be to.
ReplyDeleteaaahhh, thank you x
DeleteBlimey! There's good news all over the bloomin' internet tonight (or not tonight, because I'm late as usual) but still
ReplyDeleteYAY!
So amazingly well done you!
Thank you! Very happy, will no doubt still be grinning from ear to ear when we meet in June!
DeleteWow! I am a bit late picking up on this news but that is fantastic Helen! Well done for all your hard work. I love the way your blog looks these days; it's made me want to give mine a makeover. I will definitely buy the book, and it will make a good pressie for a few other knackered mothers I know! See you at BritMums. Peggy xxx
